Psyrri (or Psiri) district is the companion to Monastiraki with more trendy cafés, bars, and restaurants.

It feels a bit grittier since there are plenty of closed shops among the beautifully decorated bars some of which sport colorful hookah on the sidewalk tables.

Psiri district is less crowded than the nearby Monastiraki, and mostly frequented by Greeks. It's an area the government has given a lot of incentives for development and even though it has an "unfinished" feeling, it is a nice place to get away from the crowds albeit with limited options and as many patches of undeveloped buildings among the tastefully decorated and trendy venues.
